Bedding Plants
Bedding Plants nowadays constitute an extraordinary array of bright and bold colourful flowering plants, as well as many structural “centrepiece” statement plants such as Cordylines, Phormiums and even upright Conifers. Gone are the days of mass planted beds and borders, with the trend more along the lines of integration with existing shrubs, or planting containers for months of summer colour.
Patio Plants
Many summer bedding lines are grown with a specific purpose in mind – and show off their very best attributes when utilised in containers, rather than being planted out into borders. Hanging baskets, terracotta pots, window boxes and containers of other shapes and sizes all lend themselves to being planted with Patio Plants.
From the non-stop flowering, trailing habit, and “classy” white flowers of the Bacopa Snowflake, to the upright habit of the tough and robust Nemesia, Patio Plants will provide months of colour. Try planting Nemesia Wisley Vanilla for its fantastic vanilla flowered scent.
Argyranthemum (“Marguerites”) come in not just the familiar white flower, but also cheery red, yellow, pink. Their “daisy-like” flowers last all summer if dead-headed, and work well as a centrepiece for most tubs and containers.
If you have a particularly shady spot on the patio, then the “Busy Lizzie” (Impatien) is hard to beat. It thrives in a shaded spot and will continue to flower right through until the first frosts. For a larger flowering variety – try the New Guinea Impatien – a slightly more vigorous grower, with larger flowers, often with a more ornate foliage colour/pattern.
Two of the most popular bedding plants that still rival the newcomers are of course Fuchsias and Geraniums. Both are available in upright and trailing habits, and again, are an outstanding component for most containers, especially hanging baskets.
For something that little bit different, look out for the bold and bright colours of the “Calla Lily” (Zantedeschia). These South African natives require a bright sunny spot to best showcase their stunning flowers and containers will need to be regularly watered – but the results are well worth it, especially as these can be kept and overwintered to perform again the following year.
With a selection to appeal to any style or taste, we stock the widest, best value bedding plants for miles. Why go elsewhere and pay more?
